Do You Want an IP Address from the USA?
Well, here’s how to get one. It’s not that difficult to get access to an American IP address, however it can be confusing if you’re new to the technology.
Firstly some clarification, most of the solutions offering to change your IP address to a US one are not physically changing your real address. This is extremely difficult as it’s mostly assigned by our ISP or the organisation who’s internet access we’re using. Even at home, your normally stuck with the same IP address, locked to your actual location. So an internet user in London is pretty much stuck with a UK IP address unless he buys his own ISP (Internet service provider).
What you can do however is hide your real IP address and temporarily use another one. The simplest and most common solution is to route your internet connection through a VPN. This creates an encrypted tunnel making you pretty much invisible online. What it also does is hide your real IP address and substitutes the IP address of the VPN server instead. So if you connect to a US VPN server, then you’ll effectively have a US IP address.

As shown in the video, the target website still performs the IP lookup when the browser connects. However it sees the IP address of the VPN server instead of the real one, which means that the connection will have full access to all US only websites.
This is the most common and simplest way of controlling your IP address and being able to bypass all the blocks and filters that are currently online. This method will fool almost all websites however there are a few caveats you should be aware of, where a VPN might not be sufficient.
Although no website can actually detect the presence of a VPN reliably, there are ways that some sites block access even to VPNs. The most common one if by looking at the actual IP address connecting. Most VPNs use IP addresses registered as datacenter network addresses, which are different to standard residential IP addresses. It’s perfectly possible to check how any address is classified although currently not many actually do.
However some sites will look for datacenter IP addresses as indicators of proxies and VPNs. In some situations they might even penalize them, for instance Instagram have such procedures in place to combat promotional behavior.
